#76 Tycho - "Montana"

Tycho is not a band, it is simply Scott Hansen. He’s from California and he plays some quite interesting instrumental indie, chillwave, IDM type music. He is one part Explosions in the Sky, one part Boards of Canada and one part DJ Shadow.  Hansen has been making music as Tycho for almost 10 years but found a bit of new success with 2011’s “Dive” and then even moreso with 2014’s “Awake”.

“Montana” is a good change to the sometimes ambient approach of Tycho, who tours as a three piece band. Constantly building into small climaxes and going back into a melody is something Montana excels in.  While this is Tycho’s only Top 100 song, they do did manage 2 songs in the Top 500.
